Litter-Robot 4 vs PETKIT PuraMax 2: Fit and Ownership Checks
Litter-Robot 4 and PETKIT PuraMax 2 are powered litter boxes with different shapes and ownership routines. Start with your cat’s size and access needs, then compare space, consumables and cleaning. This is a manufacturer-source buying comparison, not a head-to-head performance test.
Check the exact model and cat limits
Whisker lists a 3–25 lb cat range for Litter-Robot 4 and explains that smaller kittens need a supervised manual approach until they meet its automatic-use requirement. PETKIT recommends 1.5–10 kg, approximately 3.3–22 lb, for PuraMax 2. Weight limits do not establish comfort: check interior space and the current age and use restrictions in each manual.
Do not copy limits from Litter-Robot 3, PuraMax or a newer similarly named PETKIT model. Keep the model name and manual together when comparing listings. Follow the manufacturer’s current instructions, especially in households with kittens.

Measure the place where it will live
Measure the machine footprint plus the clearance needed to remove waste and cleaning components. A box fitting under a shelf is not enough if you cannot service it there. Confirm the surface and placement requirements in the manual so the device can operate as intended.
Consider the route your cat takes to reach the box, the entry height and whether another cat can block access. Leave a familiar tray available while introducing the new equipment. Automatic cleaning does not guarantee that a cat will accept a new enclosure.
Compare recurring costs honestly
List the litter types permitted by each maker and the bags, deodorizing products or other consumables you expect to use. Separate required items from optional bundles. Compare ordinary replacement prices rather than assuming the starter bundle reflects annual cost.
App features, connectivity and notifications can be useful, but they do not replace checking the box. Ask what works without an internet connection and whether the functions you want depend on a subscription or accessory. Confirm those terms at purchase because software offerings can change.
Choose from the routine, not a claimed winner
Prefer the machine that fits your cat, room and realistic maintenance schedule. If either manual rules out the intended use, remove that option before comparing convenience features. Verify local returns, warranty support and the practical process for cleaning a returned unit.
We have not measured noise, waste capacity between emptying, odor control or cleaning reliability side by side. Use the published limits to build a shortlist, then judge the actual support and return terms before committing.
